Who is Keen Physique?
Keen Physique is a passionate Brisbane-based personal training business led by Matt McKean. Matt’s mission is to empower his clients to lead longer and stronger lives through personalised and sustainable fitness strategies. For additional information on Matt, check out the About Me page.
What qualifications do you have?
In 2011, I graduated from QUT with a Bachelor of Health Science (Podiatry), and have been a practising podiatrist since 2012 (you can see me here). In addition to these expertise, I hold the nationally recognised Certificate III and IV in Fitness, and have been a personal trainer since 2017. Committed to lifelong learning, I actively engage in ongoing professional development (CPD) activities each year.
Do you offer a free consultation for personal training?
Absolutely! I offer a complimentary initial consultation for new clients. During this free session, we will have a good discussion about your goals, medical and exercise history (if any), followed by a brief movement assessment. This allows me to gather information necessary to create your customised program, while you get to suss me out as your potential trainer! Contact Me to book in.
What is the recommended session duration for face-to-face personal training?
We offer flexible options for face-to-face training with 30-minute, 45-minute and 60-minute sessions. 45-minute is the most popular option to deliver a quality session, allowing time to hone in on technical aspects of exercise such as learning correct technique and form! Having said that, I would recommend training for an amount that YOU can adhere to long-term. See our Services page for additional information.
Does Keen Physique provide online personal training services?
Absolutely! As a Keen Physique online client, your custom programming is delivered via our custom mobile app. Your carefully chosen exercises are equipped with video tutorials, accompanied by step-by-step audio and written instructions. You will also receive continued support and video feedback on exercise technique. See our Services page for additional information.
Is in-person personal training more effective than online training?
Not necessarily. While face-to-face sessions provide immediate hands on support and education, it is not accessible by all. Whether it’s face-to-face or online, the most effective form of training is the one that is sustainable and enjoyable. This is why I continue to dedicate time and effort in producing high quality instructional videos to my app, ensuring accessibility and effective programming for all.
Does Keen Physique provide mobile personal training services?
Yes, I offer mobile personal training, but availability is assessed on a case-by-case basis, taking into consideration time and location constraints. Please note that mobile training is currently limited to the inner suburbs of Brisbane.
How much does personal training cost in Australia?
The cost of personal training in Australia varies, with personal trainers typically charging between $45 and $100+ per session, as reported by One Flare. As someone who has had a personal trainer, I understand that these services are a luxury. Therefore, I strive to offer multiple pricing options to accommodate different budgets. For more detailed information, please feel free to reach out through our Contact page.
Is a gym membership required for training with Keen Physique?
No, not at all! Keen Physique operates in a private, appointment-only studio in Brisbane’s inner-city suburb, Milton. There’s no need for a gym membership, as we do not require any additional membership fees. You only pay for the cost of your session.
What types of training programs are offered by Keen Physique?
At Keen Physique, we don’t believe in quick fixes, instead empowering and educating our clients to feel and move better for life. Our training programs are tailored to individual goals and abilities, encompassing a diverse range of categories. These include strength training, weight loss, general fitness, handstands, strength for running, as well as calisthenics and powerlifting.
Does Keen Physique provide personalised diet plans or offer specialised nutritional programming?
In short, no. As a passionate health professional with years of experience and knowledge, I will answer the questions of my clients and offer advice to the best of MY ability. However, I am not a qualified nutritionist or dietitian, and therefore prefer to “stay in my lane”. For specific and detailed nutritional plans, I refer to a reliable network of fantastic dietitians.
Do I need to be vegan to train with Keen Physique?
No, not at all! While I have been vegan since 2015, Keen Physique is open to everyone, regardless of dietary choices. I am here to assist anyone and everyone in achieving their health and fitness goals.
